Structure Fire – 1433 Oak Hill Dr

On Sunday morning August 13th at 11:40hrs, the Elsmere Fire Co along with mutual aide units were dispatched to 1433 Oak Hill Dr in the Oak Hill community for a residential structure fire. Engine 165 under the command of Captain Josh Perrine made the response and arrived to find a 2 story split level residential structure with smoke showing from side alpha. The Engine crew deployed a handline and advanced to the kitchen where the fire was located. Ladder 21 arrived and assumed the first due special service assignment and laddered the structure and preformed a primary search of the structure. Squad 14 was assigned the second due engine and stretched a back up line to the fire building. Rescue 23 arrived next and took the second due special service assignment and secured power to the residence and preformed a secondary search, and opened up. Engine 165 had the fire knocked down quickly, and contained to the kitchen, with smoke and heat damage to adjacent rooms. Crews began to open up and check for extension. All searches proved negative and members also removed 2 dogs and 2 cats from the structure unharmed. No injuries to Firefighters or civilians were reported. The DSFM are handling the investigation. Assisting companies included Five Points, Minquas of Newport, Cranston Heights, and Mill Creek Fire Companies, along with NCCEMS. Units from Hockessin and Belvedere Fire Companies provided coverage for the area during the incident.
